Our first initiative as coordinators, MiGiS – Migrant Girls in Sport: Never Behind Again!, officially started on the 3rd July 2023, with the kick-off meeting we hosted in Rome, at the Europa Experience – David Sassoli centre.

The general objective of the project is to engage the European youth in inclusion paths for minors with a migrant background, especially girls. The specific objectives are: a) Increasing Italian, Bulgarian and Greek youth workers’ awareness and competencies on sport as a means to achieve inclusion of migrant girls; b) Raising awareness in schools of Italy, Bulgaria and Greece on the importance of sport as a tool for social inclusion through youth workers and youth in general.

How will we achieve these goals? We are planning for the coming months a training in Sofia, six workshops in schools in Greece, Bulgaria and Italy (read about our workshop in Todi here), and a podcast.

✈ Our partners in this initiative are Balkan Sports Development Association, from Bulgaria, and Roes Cooperativa KoinSEp, from Greece.

More updates soon here and on our social media.

Our workshop in Todi

As part of our MiGiS initiative, at the end of April we went to Todi where we organised a workshop with the athletics sport association ASD G.S. Uisport Avis Todi.

The workshop focused on testing community building games and activities aimed at creating inclusive environments for everyone, including migrant girls.

The workshop was attended by roughly 20 girls and boys aged 8 to 12. They engaged in playful sports activities and forum theatre. Through these activities, they explored the values of sports and its significant role in promoting inclusion.

To cap off this fantastic workshop, Europamente interviewed two girls, Arianna and Sara, together with their mothers, Loredana and Amal, as part of our podcast. Listen to their story in the episode dedicated to them here!
